The Department of Psychology at Hemchand Yadav Durg University is devoted to training scientists who will work to advance theory and to create knowledge that helps us address real-world problems. Accomplishing this mission requires a broad range of perspectives and backgrounds. Diversity enriches both our department and the science of psychology.  We strive to cultivate an inclusive community that values diverse questions, viewpoints, approaches, and participant samples to foster ingenuity, challenge biases, and promote intellectual growth.

A graduate student is expected to learn and assimilate thefollowing attribute and knowledge after completion of the degree of Bachelor ofArts in psychology are:

PO-1

The students acquire knowledge in the field of social sciences, literature and humanities which make them sensitive and sensible enough.

PO-2

The B.A. graduates will be acquainted with the social, economic, historical, geographical, political, ideological and philosophical tradition and thinking

PO-3

The program also empowers the graduates to appear for various competitive examinations or choose the post graduate program of their choice

PO-4

The B. A. program enables the students to acquire the knowledge with human values framing the base to deal with various problems in life with courage and humanity.

ECONOMICS – PSYCHOLOGY- HOME SCIENCE

 

ü  Policy making is one of the most important tasks which an economist is expected to perform. The students are guided to understand the nitty-gritty of Monetary and Fiscal policy its impact and expected outcomes when combined with the other prevailing factors in the economy.

ü    Today’s Competitive markets are based on minimizing the cost and maximizing the revenue. Cost effectiveness is sine-quo-non for any business the program helps the students to inculcate various techniques of cost effectiveness like returns to scale, break even analysis etc.

ü  Students will be able to determine and evaluate various concept of economic factors viz. inflation, unemployment, Poverty, GDP etc.

ü  Students will be able to understand basic concept of psychology and understand human development.

ü  Professionally use psychometric tools in an appropriate manner and to familiarize students with basic statistical methods

ü  To perform quantitative and qualitative data analysis of human behavior in control condition.

ü  Understand scientific principles and techniques of food service management.

ü  Apply analytical principles of food and nutrients in diet formulation.

ü  Acquire knowledge and skills in textile production, dying and printing

                                    BA-  I

PAPER- I       Basic Psychological Processes

 

1.        Developing an understanding about the definition, methods and branches of Psychology. An understanding about the different schools of thought. 

2.        Learning about the biological and genetic basis of behavior, neuron, synapse and neurotransmitters. Learning about the classification of Nervous System.

3.         Knowledge about the basic perceptual processes- attention, sensation, perception and Optical illusions.

4.        Understanding Learning and Memory processes- nature, factors, applications and theories of learning; stages and types of memory, factors of retrieval. Understanding concept, types and theories of Motivation. Learning why forgetting takes place.

5.        Understanding nature and types of thought process, classification and theories of Intelligence and all aspects of personality.  Overall this course facilitates the student in deriving knowledge about the historical sketch of the field of psychology and its establishment as a science, knowledge about the fundamental psychological processes.

Paper II Psychopathology 

1.       Learning about definition of psychopathology, concept of abnormality, criteria of normality. Understanding of models Abnormal Behavior: Psychodynamic, Behavioral and Cognitive.

2.       Studying the methods of understanding abnormal behavior: diagnostic, rating scales, interview, Psychometric and Projective.

3.        Learning about symptoms of types of Anxiety Disorders.

4.       Knowing about the concept of Mood Disorders and personality disorders..

5.       Management of maladies and understanding of various therapies. Overall this course facilitates the student in his understanding the fact that all human beings have both normality and abnormality in one’s frame of mind, symptoms and causes behind deviances from normality, a very brief overview about mental maladies and treatment methods.

BA II

Paper ISocial Psychology

1.       Understand the causes and reasons behind social processes.Analyzing the influence of varied social phenomena on an individual - Social organization, interaction, person perception, attribution. 

2.       Understanding Self and its different aspects, unearthing the Socio-cultural Determinants behind prosocial behavior.

3.       Developing an understanding of group psychology, group phenomenon, Leadership and group morale, Social Comparison theory, Culture and Self Attitude: definition, formation, theories, measurement and change

4.       Understanding the concept and measurement of Stereotype, prejudice and discrimination. 

5.       Application of the knowledge to society.  Overall this course facilitates the student in acquiring the ability to understand the importance of the social context, one’s existence as a psychosocial being, different processes that take place in day to day circumstances as social psychology use psychological science to understand how we perceive ourselves in relation to the rest of the world and how this perception affects our choices, behaviors and beliefs.

 

Paper IIPsychological Assessment

1.        Understanding the basic Concept of Assessment. Difference between Physical and Psychological Assessment, Levels of Assessment used in our daily life

2.       Understanding the dimensions of psychological tests like - Standardization, and Uses of Psychological Tests. 

3.       Knowing the Test Construction process including Reliability, Validity and Norms. 

4.       Gathering knowledge on assessment of Intelligence, Aptitude, Achievement, Value, Interest and Personality. 

5.       Psychological Testing in Applied aspects of Life like Education, Occupation, Social, Health and Organization and   the Socio-Cultural factors in Psychological Assessment. Overall this course facilitates the student in his understanding and learning about the different types of methodology to construct and administer tests appropriately.

Course Outcome of Psychology

BA III

Paper I   Psychological Statistics

1.        Developing an understanding about properties and applications of Statistics its Meaning and Application in Psychology. 

2.       Developing an understanding about Measures of Central Tendency, Measures of Variability their applications, computation and use. 

3.       Developing an understanding about properties and applications of Normal Probability Curve. 

4.       Learning about parametric and non-parametric statistics, null hypothesis and its testing, standard error. Computation and use of t-test. 

5.     Learning about chi square test, median and sign test. Applications of computer in psychological statistics. Overall this course facilitates the student in his understanding and learning about the different types of statistics, nature of variables and the applications in research.

 

Paper-II    Human Developmental

1.        Understanding the concept and definition of development, role of genetic and environmental factors. 

2.       Learning about the Pre natal, physical, speech, emotional, cognitive, moral, social and personality development in each stage of life span. 

3.       Knowing about self and identity, the emergence of self and sequential development of emotions

4.       Development of Morality and Self-control

5.       Understanding the problems of aging (cognitive, conative, and affective) and developmental disabilities in human beings. Overall this course facilitates the student in his understanding and gathering knowledge about the normal and the deviant conditions in developmental sequence from before birth till old age and the contribution of genetics and environment at every stage of life.
